Economic Growth
Right now, Virginia faces a budget shortfall of about $5 billion. It seems like the only solution being offered to solve the problem is tax increases. Yet, tax increases will take money from the people and the business community, resulting in less business development, less economic growth and fewer jobs for Northern Virginia.Tax increases in this economy would be a recipe for disaster.
How do we solve the budget shortfall? By thinking "outside the box" and offering new ideas to bring new revenue to the state of Virginia, not by taxing the same people over and over.
Bob McDonnell has suggested we privatize Virginia’s Alcohol Beverage Control stores (ABC). I agree with Bob McDonnell and would vote for the privatizing of our state ABC stores. Doing so would provide Virginia with anywhere from $500 million to $1 billion in revenue immediately. On top of that, both sales taxes on liquor sales and the auctioning of liquor licenses would yield even more revenue for Virginia every year.
This is not a radical idea. Many states allow for the private sale of liquor sales. Furthermore, Virginia already allows for the sale of beer and wine in the private sector. Why not allow for the private sale of liquor?
Doing so will erase our budget shortfall, provide new jobs to the state of Virginia, and be an economic boost to our economy.
Moreover, my Tranportation Trifecta plan (found under the Transportation tab) will provide jobs, economic growth, a boost to the local tax base, while making Virginia energy independent without raising taxes.
