Health Care Reform
Christopher Merola's Ten Tenets of Good Health Care Reform:1. Virginians must be allowed to own their health care plans, as opposed to their employers. We own our car insurance plans, why not our own health plans? Doing so creates a sense of ownership and personal responsibility.
It will also make health care plans portable. Virginians should be able to take their health plans with them when they move from one job to another.
2. Allow for competition in the Virginia health care industry, which will drive costs down and improve the quality of care for everyone.
3. Virginians must be able to price shop for health care plans, just as they do with auto insurance. This includes shopping for plans in other states.
4. Virginia must improve its Tort Reform laws to cut back on frivolous law suits.
5. Virginia must allow for the implementation of electronic medical records while ensuring a patient's medical history is kept confidential and not released without the patient's consent.
6. Virginia must legislate transparency of medical cost and quality so that patients have an incentive to shop for plans in the health care market.
7. In Virginia, we must prohibit the monopoly of medical services in any given market.
8. Virginia must provide tax incentives to health care companies that invest in new and innovative technologies.
9. Virginia must reward health care providers with tax incentives based on the value of their services, not simply the volume of procedures performed.
10. Virginia must create tax incentives to encourage patients to obtain catastrophic health insurance.

Christopher Merola and his wife, Tressa Harper Merola, have lived in Northern Virginia for some seven years now.
They have each worked on Capitol Hill and believe in making a contribution to the political process. They have even sacrificed at times to do so.
The freedom and liberty that our founding fathers desired for our nation are values they hold dear.
