Transportation
In order to adequately fund transportation projects in Northern Virginia, we must create a steady stream of revenue to fund those projects without raising taxes on the people. In these times of economic downturn, the people of Northern Virginia and the business community can not afford their taxes being raised.I will vote against all forms of tax increases if I am elected to be the State Delegate in the 53rd District.
My opponent is an 18-year, tax and spend incumbent. His answer for everything, it appears, is to raise taxes on the same group of people, over and over -- that's you and me!
I have a different perspective when it comes to raising revenue to pay for transportation projects. I have created a plan that I call the Transportation Trifecta.
Here is my Transportation Trifecta plan:
1. Make Virginia energy independent by forming public and private partnerships with energy companies so they can drill for oil off our shores in environmentally safe ways, develop clean coal technology solutions, utilize compressed natural gas as an alternative to gasoline, and develop nuclear power solutions.
2. Allow the aforementioned technologies to create jobs to bolster Virginia's economy and local tax base.
3. Embrace free-market environmentalism, which will improve the quality of Northern Virginia's environmental standards without raising taxes, or burdening the business community with bureaucratic mandates.
These three goals, once accomplished, will provide a steady stream of funding for transportation projects through revenue sharing with these same energy companies.
We can get our economy moving again and pay for much needed transportation projects without raising taxes.
Incidentally, raising taxes is my opponent's favorite past time. We can do better and we must!
